Contest winner: Katja und Julia
®claryl: Was the winning picture a spontaneous idea? Why did you pick this cover?
K&J: It wasn't actually a spur-of-the-moment decision. We've got a lot of old records and we spent a few days picking out all the interesting covers. We then tried to come up with a good background to display them on. But the process itself was great fun! We couldn't wait to see the finished product.
®claryl: So who's the woman featured on this cuddly cover?
K&J: This is the Latvian singer Laima Vaikule, who was popular 20 years ago.
®claryl: Why did you decide to enter the competition?
K&J: A friend of ours found out about this competition and suggested that we enter. We thought it was a great idea, so we set about taking the photos.
®claryl: What is it about photography that particularly appeals to you?
K&J: Photography captures a moment in time that will never be repeated. It's an attempt to hold on to a point in our real life, which flies past so quickly. Photography is an art and an opportunity to create a unique world. It's not only taking photos that appeals to us; we also enjoy looking at old photos, particularly ones dating back to the beginning of the 20th century.
®claryl: What do you like so much about records?
K&J: We used to listen to records as children. We would dress up as singers and dance around and sing. Because of this, we will always connect records with our childhood memories.
®claryl: Which picture have you decided to have framed?
K&J: We've chosen the photo entitled "Das Beerenherz" (berries in the shape of a heart). It was taken by a friend of ours when we were on holiday together. It's a beautiful, radiant photo which reminds us of our friendship.
